Mahapach-Taghir identifies itself with the tent protest and with its goals of fair housing policies and solutions for the student public and residents of Jewish and Arab marginalized neighborhoods.
Mahapach-Taghir strives for cooperation between the middle class and marginalized populations and believes in the strength of such cooperation, which has the power to bring about genuine social change. The struggle for affordable housing is an opportunity to create change within the current social structure through collaboration of students and marginalized residents, Arabs and Jews, center and periphery, old and young.
We encourage all our active residents to take part in local protest efforts and join tent locations near our communities, and urge students who have not yet joined the campaign to demonstrate support and join the many protest events and the tent boulevards: this is a real opportunity to participate in a civic democratic struggle and to effect its results.
We would also like to extend our support and encouragement to the organizers of this protest, especially the student leadership: we urge you to continue with the struggle and not to compromise by accepting the current suggested solutions which are merely an attempt to break the campaign and dismantle it by embracing the student population alone. The time for solidarity has come!
